Paul had travelled through Asia Minor, and when he arrived in Galatia he realized they had already fallen away from the teachings of the Gospel of grace. The Judaizers were a group of Jews who tried to put the Church back under the Law by telling people it was necessary for them to keep the Law of Moses before exercising faith in Jesus for salvation. Jesus came to set us free from sin and the Law...

1-17-24Tonight Pastor Phil continues in Chapter 3 of Romans. He touched on Condemnation that came through the Law, and the power of God's Word to save through freedom in Christ, and His finished work on the Cross. Tonight we move into the section of scripture where Paul points out justification by faith comes in trusting in Jesus.Righteousness can only come from Jesus, and His finished work, not being a deed keeper or religion— to be made right with God, we need to be reconciled to Him through Jesus... It's a gift, and not earned.Paul chose Rome for a reason when he went out to preach. Firstly, because God had sent him, but because Rome was a central 'point of the world' as 'all roads lead to Rome'. Ask most people why they think they're good enough to go to heaven they'll often say - 'because I'm good. I'm a good person." Scripture speaks opposite of that. We are all sinners. 12-13-23Tonight Pastor Phil continues in Chapter 3 of Romans. He touches on Condemnation that came through the Law, and the power of God's Word to save through freedom in Christ, and His finished work on the Cross.In this section of Scripture it's crystal clear when Paul recounts the Psalmist that says, "there is none righteous, no not one." Ask most people why they think they're good enough to go to heaven they'll often say - 'because I'm good. I'm a good person." Scripture speaks opposite of that. We are all sinners. Righteous can only come from Jesus, and what He's done for us.The world says, we must "love ourselves, pamper ourselves." What does the Bible say? We must deny self. Oh the dangers of worldly philosophies and heresies that pull us away from the purposes and attributes of God!Paul chose Rome for a reason when he went out to preach. Firstly, because God had sent him, but because Rome was a central 'point of the world' as 'all roads lead to Rome'. So if he shared the Gospel there, whomever received it would carry God's Word, and the testimonies of Paul and the work they'd seen done out into the four corners of the world.Often referred to as the Gospel according to Paul, and the greatest book ever written, Paul's letter to the Romans will become our focus as Pastor Phil continues to lead us through the Word of God.Calvary Chapel Elk Grove is a non-denominational fellowship located in Roselle, a northwest suburb of Chicago in Illinois.This weeks' Video Message:
