65. Romans 7:1-6 (9-25-24) | Final
65. Romans 7:1-6 | Final
Calvary Chapel Elk Grove
Pastor Phil Ballmaier
9-25-24

Tonight Pastor Phil begins Romans, Chapter 7. In Romans 6 through Romans 8 we learn that because of the finished work on the Cross—sin no longer has ahold of us. That we are dead TO sin because of the finished work of Jesus, whereas before we were saved we were dead IN sin. We'll continue to learn about the sanctification process as a believer.

In Chapter 7, Paul continues to bring home the point that we are no longer slaves to sin, but have been set free of it because of the finished work of The Cross.

***
Paul chose Rome for a reason when he went out to preach. Firstly, because God had sent him, but because Rome was a central 'point of the world' as 'all roads lead to Rome'. So if he shared the Gospel there, whomever received it would carry God's Word, and the testimonies of Paul and the work they'd seen done out into the four corners of the world.

Often referred to as the Gospel according to Paul, and the greatest book ever written, Paul's letter to the Romans will become our focus as Pastor Phil continues to lead us through the Word of God.

Pastor Phil of Calvary Chapel normally teaches the Bible verse-by-verse, but we are taking a topical approach to The Book of Galatians. Today we are in Part 3 of our next section of Galatians, "Liberty For Life" as we continue in Chapter 5.

In today's message, Pastor Phil focuses on the topic of the Rapture.

Paul had travelled through Asia Minor, and when he arrived in Galatia he realized they had already fallen away from the teachings of the Gospel of grace. The Judaizers were a group of Jews who tried to put the Church back under the Law by telling people it was necessary for them to keep the Law of Moses before exercising faith in Jesus for salvation. Jesus came to set us free from sin and the Law...

Pastor Phil of Calvary Chapel normally teaches the Bible verse-by-verse, but we are taking a topical approach to The Book of Galatians. Today we are in Part 1 of our next section of Galatians, "Liberty For Life" as we begin Chapter 5..

Pastor Phil previously outlined Chapters 1 through 4 with Paul's direction at dealing with the Galatians who were being swayed by the Judaizers who were bent on placing them not under the liberty that comes from the grace of Christ, but the bondage that comes from the Law.

Paul points out: "Although all things are lawful for me, not all things are helpful; all things are lawful for me, but not all things edify" 1 Corinthians 10:23 That although we have liberty in Christ, let it not lead us to do things that are ungodly, but seek to glorify God in all things.

Tonight Pastor Phil continues in Romans, Chapter 6. In Romans 6 through Romans 8 we learn that because of the finished work on the Cross—sin no longer has ahold of us. That we've been set free from the power of sin and death! Paul teaches the keys to overcoming sin and our fallen sin nature we must follow 4 principles:

    1. Know (vs. 3-10)
    2. Reckon (vs. 11-12)
    3. Present (vs. 13-19)
    4. Obey (verses 16-17)

We'll continue to explore these keys to victory as we continue through Romans 6. This is all a part of the sanctification process as a believer, for His glory and kingdom.

Today we are in Part 26 of "Liberty From Law".

Pastor Phil moves through Chapter 4 of Galatians, today we see Paul addressing the believers who seem bent on leaning back on the laws they previously observed, including in some cases the principles of the Law and the world. In today's verses, Paul decides to give everyone a history lesson about Two Covenants. The symbiotic relationship between the flesh and the law—freedom and bondage through the story of Abraham & Hagar.

So here, Paul begins to bring his argument to its conclusion—the argument that salvation is a total promise of God, a gift of His grace and not a reward for keeping the Law. As if presenting his closing argument in a court of law, he appeals to Abraham, the father of the Jewish people.
