In Ephesians Chapter 1 Paul is talking about how those of us who are Christians got saved. In verse 13 he gives a very simple 3 point outline—“You heard the word of truth (the gospel), you trusted in Christ, and you were sealed with the Holy Spirit.”
1. You heard the word of truth—v.13a
Romans 10:17 (NKJV)
So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
1 Corinthians 1:21b (NKJV)
…it pleased God through the foolishness of the message preached to save those who believe.
This is our part in God’s plan for saving the lost—to honor God with our lives and to share the gospel with our words. We really have not been called to “win people to Christ” or to “save souls”—that’s the Holy Spirit’s ministry.
Our responsibility is to, “Go into all the world and preach the Good News to everyone” as Jesus commanded us.

Here’s an update from the Calvary Chapel Association and the relief efforts being made by Calvary Chapel Houston, and generous donors across the country. We will post these updates, along with news from Pastor Mike and Robin as info becomes available.
We wanted to get a letter out to everyone expressing our gratitude, for the great response to the devastating effects of Hurricane Harvey in Houston and the surrounding areas. Your continuing prayer and support is appreciated more than words can express. Though the recovery from this storm will take years, the open door for the Gospel will no doubt produce a spiritual recovery and reviving of unimaginable blessing in many people’s lives. The CCA website will continue to post updates and practical ways to get involved so please use it as a way to remain informed. Now with Hurricane Irma and Jose bearing down on Florida and the Southeast, our prayers and the prayers of His church are urgently needed. We’ll do our best to keep everyone informed as we get updates. Please pray for First Responders, Emergency Workers, FEMA, National Guard, Police and Fire Rescue, and all those who are serving in extremely difficult circumstances. Especially pray for the pastors and congregations who find themselves in the middle of all of this insanity who want to be both a witness for our Lord, and serve the devastated communities they are in the midst of. We will keep you all posted.

Hurricane Harvey originated off of the coast of Africa as a tropical storm in early August and made landfall on south Texas on August 26. This storm edged slowly east into the Gulf of Mexico before making a final landfall near Cameron, Louisiana, on August 30.
It has wreaked havoc on property, and lives as can be seen in the video and will take a great deal of time to recover from the devastation left in its’ wake.
Now our country is faced with yet another natural disaster as a string of tropical storms and Hurricane Irma approaches the southeastern coast of our country, including Florida, Alabama and the Carolinas.
Samaritan’s Purse is already dispatching supplies for the effort.
Let’s pray that The Lord would continue to come up alongside all of those affected.
Calvary Chapel Elk Grove, in conjunction with Samaritan’s Purse and Calvary Chapel Houston, is raising relief funds for the hurricane response effort.
We will use this blog for donations, and to keep our fellowship up to date on ways to help, and for those who may be interested in volunteering to travel down to Houston to assist.

Many are asking – How can I best help?
Pray! Please Pray! The fields are white for harvest as people try to make sense of their lives amidst this disaster. Secondly, funds are needed for the relief effort as local churches and Samaritan’s Purse minister and provide aid ‘on the ground.’

ON THE GROUND with Calvary Chapel Houston
Calvary Chapel Houston has also been in the midst of the storm, working directly with the communities affected by Hurricane Harvey.
On September 1st, CC Houston served 4,000 meals and are expecting that number to grow as the word spreads. They are equipped for 10,000 meals a day.

In Ephesians 5:1 Paul admonishes us to be “imitators of God as His dear children”.
When Paul said that we are to imitate God as “dear children” he is implying that it is the most natural thing in the world for children to imitate their parents—and because we are children of God let’s be imitators of our Heavenly Father.
“Okay”, you say, “but how do I do that, what does that look like?”
Well, one the greatest attributes of God is love—in fact the Bible doesn’t say that God has a lot of love—it says that God is love!
So, with that in mind, one of the greatest ways we can imitate our Heavenly Father to the people of this world is by demonstrating God’s love as His children.

Christianity is not a religion, it’s a relationship. A relationship with Jesus Christ.
